(CNN) – Donald Trump is evoking his most ominous picture yet of a potential second term, warning followers to “fight like hell” or else they risk losing their nation in language reminiscent of the days leading up to the January 6 mob attack on the US Capitol.

The four-times-indicted ex-president escalated his rhetoric during a rally in South Dakota on Friday night, where he claimed that President Joe Biden, who he could face in 2024, had ordered his indictment on 91 charges over four criminal cases as a form of political meddling.

In a dystopian speech, Trump wild declared, “I don’t think there’s ever been a darkness around our nation like there is now.” He also accused Democrats of trying to reignite Covid “hysteria” and permitting an “invasion” of immigration over the southern border.

In his scathing speech, the Republican front-runner hinted at the possibility of a second term that might be even more radical and dangerous to the rule of law than his first. Trump’s belief that the presidency bestows unrestricted powers suggests that he would engage in similar behavior to that for which he is currently being investigated, including bullying local authorities in a purported effort to reverse his 2020 loss.
